Abstract
Microbusinesses are the backbone of Argentina’s productive structure and make up 83% of businesses, yet they operate in a context marked by economic volatility and institutional gaps. This study investigates the survival patterns and structural barriers faced by small enterprises such as bakeries, kiosks, butcher shops, and breweries. Results show that firms in beverages and general retail tend to endure longer, while niche food businesses face early closures. Limited access to formal credit and rising
crime rates are key obstacles, with most businesses turning to informal funding sources. The findings highlight the need for targeted microcredit, tax relief, and training to reinforce microbusiness stability and inform inclusive economic policy.
